Growth of Online and Niche Dating Sites
In 2013, consumers paid $2.2 billion worldwide to find a mate and the overall market is expected to continue to grow at about 5 percent a year over the next five years. Dating through mobile is exploding and now accounts for roughly 27 percent of the dating site services, but it has remained a persistently weak spot for much of the industry. An article in The New York Times also noted the rise of niche dating sites, including GlutenfreeSingles, Trek Passions , Sea Captain Date, DateMyPet and even The Atlasphere, for devotees of Ayn Rand's libertarian philosophy.
