Fifteen and Pregnant is a story about the struggles and frustrations of a girl who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant at age 15. Tina (played by Kirsten Dunst) feels confused when she first learns of her situation, but experiences a great deal of support from her school, family, and friends.
In this scene, Tina is lying on her bed wearing pajamas and clutching a stuffed animal. Her mother walks into the room and sits down on the bed beside her. She says to her daughter, "I just wanted to protect you from all the bad things."
Tina, her face red from crying, says remorsefully, "And I just wanted to be excited about all the good things. I don't want to feel so bad. Maybe I was wrong for sleeping with Ray. And maybe it is a sin against God. But being pregnant gives me something to finally really look forward to. It's all mine."
Her mother has a surprised look on her face. "Is that what you needed?"
"I wanted to know what love is. How it feels inside. Especially when you're not sure from looking around you."
They disagree briefly about her mother throwing her father out of the house. Her mother says, "All I can say is, I'm so sorry you could not feel our love for you."
"I thought I wanted to feel loved by Ray," Tina answers. "The whole world was so hung up about it. I thought it would help me keep him."
"And what do you think now?"
"I don't know, really. Everybody thinks it's bad for me to have a baby. But at least I'll have someone to lovewho'll love me back."
