Text:
Psalm
37
Topic: How to deal with feelings of envy
Introduction:
-
Illustration:
John Denver's popularity and quick rise
in the country music scene caused envy among many.
- Envy
prevents you from enjoying life.
Trust
- God
is faithful and just.
-Illustration:May's experience in trusting his father at
Christmas time.
- If
you find yourself struggling with envy, you need to trust God more. He
will take care of you.
Delight
- Stop
wanting what others have, and start wanting God more than anything else.
- Delight
in the Lord: put him first; choose him over everything else.
- When
God has first place in your life, you're in a position to be blessed.
Commit
-
You're working to please God, not impress the
world.
-Illustration:May's friend William does all he can to
raise his sons well, and when they grow up to be great men, William doesn't get
the credit for the work he put in.
-
When you commit everything to God, you let go of
your need for recognition. Instead, you give all the glory to God.
Wait
-
Illustration:
The starting quarterback for the Baltimore
Ravens was rejected and had to wait for his opportunity to play.
-
Waiting is not a passive activity.
Conclusion
-
Whether or not others succeed is not your
concern. Your concern is to keep pursuing the path God has called you to take.
