On the Edge
When my daughter Katie was small, she worried about falling off the changing table. Twisting her head so that the end of the table was right in front of her eyes, she would cry, "I fallin,' Mama! I fallin'!" When my reassurances would fail, I'd say, "Don't look at the edge. Look at Mama." As her focus shifted to my face, she would become peaceful.
I, too, know the temptation to "look at the edge" when unpredictable or difficult times arise. Again and again, God must remind me, "Look at Me, daughter. Don't look at the edge." How sweet it is to lift my eyes to meet His faithful and loving gaze and know peace in the midst of turmoil.
