Proofreading the Bible
The Peachtree Editorial and Proofreading Service specializes in Bibles. Catching errors before printing is always important, but more is at stake when dealing with Scripture.
June Gunden who, along with her husband Doug, founded Peachtree says, "Bible readers are less forgiving of errors because they expect perfection in the Bible text."
For the Holman Christian Standard Bible, proofreaders spent two years scouring its pages for errors. They took extreme care to ensure that no word was misplaced, misspelled or left out.
The proofreaders at Peachtree see the Bible as God's Word, so they are passionate about getting it right. None of them wants to see an error like the one made in the 1631 King James edition of the Bible. It read, "Thou shalt commit adultery."
As Doug Gunden observed, "Obviously, you try to make sure anything that says, 'You shall not,' you make sure you have the 'not.'"
