85-year-old Woman Fights Off Her Husband's Attacker—a Moose
Alaskan Dorothea Taylor, 85, and her husband George Murphy, 82, got into a tussle with a moose while taking their golden retrievers, Fellar and Tut, out for some fresh air, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
Taylor was waiting in their truck to avoid the Alaskan subzero temperatures while her husband collected the dogs …. That's when Murphy noticed the massive animal.
"He was way off. He spotted me, and he started to come right after me. So I was trying to get to the truck. But I didn't make it," Murphy, a bush pilot from Willow, Alaska, told the Daily News.
The moose caught Murphy and began stomping on him in the snow. Fortunately, his 5-foot-tall wife grabbed a shovel from the truck and attacked the moose, taking swing after swing at the animal.
"When it turned and started to go off slowly, I hit it with everything I had," she said.
Finally, the moose retreated, and Tut, one of their dogs, chased it off. Taylor made it out of the fight unscathed, but her husband had seven broken ribs and a 6-inch cut on his forehead.
"Well, we've helped each other out of problems before. This just happened to be the latest," Taylor said.
Possible Preaching Angles: (1) Marriage/Vows—When God said that it's "for better or for worse" he really meant it—even to protect your spouse from an angry moose. Sometimes it's the husband who protects and saves his wife; sometimes it's the wife who protects and saves her husband. We're there for each other. (2) Courage—We can either run away from the battles of life, or like this brave woman, we can face them head on. (3) God's Faithful, Jealous Love—Part of God's love involves his willingness to fight for his people. (4) Aging—Never underestimate what an older person can do.
