How Much We Pay to Stay Fit

How much does it cost Americans to stay fit? Here are some stats to prove that we often go all out to keep our bodies in shape:

  • 69 million Americans have a gym membership.
  • Health clubs rake in $30.6 billion per year in revenues.
  • The average cost per person for a membership is $58.
  • Among gym users, 16.8 percent (ages 18-34), 26.2 percent (ages 35-44), 28 percent (ages 45-54) use personal trainers, and the total income for personal trainers was $3.3 billion in 2021 (latest figures available).
  • Americans also spend upwards of $87.8 billion a year on athletic apparel.
