Famous Athletes Vying for the Powerball Jackpot
Everybody was buying tickets for the big Powerball jackpot in January of 2016. Even some of the wealthiest athletes were getting caught up in the mass hysteria over the $1.5 billion purse. Alex Ovechkin, star hockey player for the Washington Capitals, who makes over $10 million a year, was spotted purchasing Powerball tickets with his father. When asked how many tickets he was going to buy, Ovechkin said, "I don't know. Maybe one, maybe two. But there's no chance you're going to win. But if I win, I'll let you guys know." Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, who makes more than $24 million a year, was spotted buying a ticket as well. He said, "I don't think I'm going to ever get hit by an asteroid. I don't think I'm every going to be president. I might have a better chance to win Powerball."
Possible Preaching Angle:
No wonder the Bible doesn't mince words with that "the love of money is the root of all evil" advice."
