Will Smith and the Fate of Truth-Tellers
No matter what you think about pro football, the movie Concussion, starring Will Smith and directed by Peter Landesman, will certainly make you think. Smith plays what USA Today calls "his most transformative role" as Dr. Bennet Omalu, a real-life Nigerian-born forensic pathologist whose work investigating brain damage in pro football players lines him up opposite the NFL.
Smith is (or was) a diehard football fan, so why did he take a role that criticizes one of his favorite past times. He told Entertainment Weekly that his son's involvement in high school football moved him to take a stand. Smith said, "As a parent, the responsibility to bring this information to light was overwhelming … I almost couldn't say no."
Possible Preaching Angle:
It hasn't been easy, Smith also confessed. But then again prophets never had an easy job. In a profound and biblical insight, Smith noted, "There is a raging historical river that is red with the blood of truth tellers. So it is not uncommon to kill the messenger."
