Army Vet Frees Bald Eagle Named 'Freedom'
The Fourth of July may have come and gone, but make sure you know the most American news story to come out of this year's holiday weekend: an Army vet who saved a bald eagle. Jason Galvin noticed something hanging from a tree as he was driving in rural Minnesota; the "something" turned out to be a bald eagle that had been trapped there for a couple days. Local authorities "were going to call it a loss … actually some people said that it was dead already." Galvin, however, had hope—and a plan. He shot at the rope that was trapping the eagle, and after a couple hours and almost 200 shots, the bird—nicknamed "Freedom" by some of the neighbors—was freed. "It was pretty emotional," Galvin said.
Possible Preaching Angle:
Bald eagles, the Army, guns, "Freedom": it all seems a little too ridiculous and over-the-top. Thankfully, however, the most important story ever told—though it may seem like too much and too good to be true—is a crazy story that's also a beautiful and salvific one.
