There were many heartwarming stories during the 2016 Olympics. And they just keep coming even after the Olympics are over. ESPN reported Polish Olympian Piotr Malachowski, who won a silver medal in the discuss competition. Piotr "announced on his Facebook page that he is auctioning off his medal to help treat Olek Szymanski, a 3-year-old Polish boy who suffers from retinoblastoma."
In a translation of his Piotr's announcement he said, "In Rio I fought for gold. Today, I appeal to everyone—let's fight together about something that is even more precious. The health of this fantastic boy." Piotr goes on to say, "If you help me, my silver may be more valuable than gold for Olek."
Possible Preaching Angle:
What an amazing picture of helping someone in need and sacrifice. These athletes work so hard for these medals, sometimes spending their entire life dedicated to this Olympic pursuit. But Piotr sees that the life of a young-boy is way more important than any medal he could have received.
