Celebrities Are Expressing More Interest in Faith
Celebrities (at least a few anyway) are getting religion. That's according to a post by Amy E. McGuire on the Acculturated blog titled "Celebrities Are Coming Out of the Closet about Faith." McGuire points to Facebook's founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, a former atheist who recently said that he now believes that "religion is very important. He didn't elaborate, but his announcement made headlines and garnered tens of thousands of comments on Facebook.
Mark Wahlberg has also been an increasingly vocal advocate of Catholicism. "My Catholic faith," he recently told an audience of priests in his native Boston, "is the anchor that supports everything I do in life. In my daily prayers, I ask for guidance, strength in my vocation as a husband and as a father." Actress Leah Remini has spoken candidly about her return to her Christian roots, posting Instagram shots of her daughter's baptism, and telling People magazine that faith is a "beautiful thing." These stars join others like Jim Gaffigan, Stephen Colbert, and Mindy Kaling in proudly vocalizing their positive views about faith.
Amy McGuire concludes, "As more and more celebrities speak openly and positively of the role of religion in their lives, America is reflecting on the role of religion more broadly in our society."
Possible Preaching Angles: (1) Evangelism—you never know who may be interested in discussing spiritual issues. (2) Seekers and the seeking God—God is searching for us before we even think about searching for him.
