Pumpkin Spice Air Freshener Causes School Evacuation
'Tis the season for pumpkin spice—but one Baltimore school has probably had quite enough of it for the year.
Recently, the third floor of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School started to smell a little funky. According to a report in TIME, students and teachers noticed "the stench seemed to be getting stronger…several people reported difficulty breathing."
The school's president ordered that the school be evacuated. The fire department soon arrived, followed by a Hazmat team. While no hazardous materials were discovered inside the building, the culprit was found: "a pumpkin spice-scented plugin air freshener in a third floor classroom."
A total of five people were taken to the hospital.
The chief of Baltimore's fire department "told reporters that despite the innocent cause of the smell, he was glad the school took action."
He explained that "[i]t's always best to take precaution, call 911, let us—we are the experts—come in and make sure that everything is safe, so we have no problem with them making this call."
Potential Preaching Angles: Doesn't it seem like the "catastrophes" in our lives start with something innocuous? A casual text, an impulsive purchase, a "what can it hurt?" May this seemingly silly story serve as a small reminder of the little things that can slowly grow into big things.
