McDonald's Flips Iconic Logo to Honor Women
If, on March 8th, 2018 you happened to check out McDonald's on social media or drive past one particular location, you might've noticed something strange: the M flipped on its head, becoming a W.
Inspired by franchisees like Patricia Williams of Los Angeles and servers like Loraine Maurer in Evansville, Indiana, McDonald's changed its logo on all its digital channels to an upside-down M as part of its recognition of International Women's Day. And at one of Williams' franchises, they brought out a crane to literally turn the iconic sign upside-down.
A video on McDonald's' website, which includes B-roll footage of the crane and the sign, tells the story of Williams as she bought her first restaurant in 1987, foraying into entrepreneurship despite being a single mother of two. Now, she and her daughters together own 18 different McDonald's franchises in California.
McDonald's Chief Diversity Officer Wendy Lewis released a statement as well.
In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women's Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants. From restaurant crew and management to our C-suite of senior leadership, women play invaluable roles at all levels and together with our independent franchise owners we're committed to their success.
Potential Preaching Angles: Women represent God's pinnacle of creation. Women can be leaders and role models in their community. High visibility is a privilege of influence, and the righteous use it wisely.
