Preacher Fail 101: The Content Dump
Every week preachers fight against one of the easiest ways to mess up a sermon. It's called "the content dump." In this week's skills article, Tommy Hinson from Church of the Advent in Washington D.C. admits that he's learned the hard way that he can't spout biblical content and expect instant change. But Hinson found an unlikely ally and teacher to move beyond sermonic content dump—a documentary filmmaker (who happens to be his wife). As Hinson writes, "I've discovered strong similarities between the arts of filmmaking and preaching that have helped me move from content dumping to skillful content delivery." Check out the whole article. It's a fresh, helpful look at improving your own preaching.
This week we also feature three stand-alone sermons from Charles Price, a pastor from Toronto, Canada with a global preaching ministry. Here's the first sermon—"In the Beginning"—and next week we'll be adding three more. These rich, expositional sermons based on Genesis 1-3 are brimming with resources to jumpstart your own preaching.
This week to help you in your preaching efforts we offer the following:
