Big Message from a Little Book

Mark Mitchell

Mark Mitchell

At 440 words it's the shortest book in the Old Testament. But don't be fooled; in just 21 verses Obadiah hits you in the gut with intensity and relevance. In this week's featured expository sermon—"Your Brothers' Keeper?"—Mark Mitchell masterfully walks us through the whole book. I love the way Mark carefully and thoughtfully bridges the world of the biblical text and our world today. Mark shows me once again why we need "the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:27) in our "preaching menu."

Daniel Fusco

Daniel Fusco

In our preaching skills article Daniel Fusco shares five tips for preaching on those often under-heard Minor Prophets. (Fusco likes these little guys so much that he even named his son Obadiah—so check that out.) As Fusco notes, at times the Minor Prophets almost seem hysterical about injustice, hypocrisy, and the coming judgment of God. So he asks, "Why are they so aggressive? Passionate? Upset?" There's a simple answer: God cares about how we live. Check out his article and plan to preach on Obadiah sometime in the next year.
