Molech Worship in 21st Century Culture
Here's a sermon you can preach when you have good news that's better than the bad news, you love your people, and you have courage. We had this sermon scheduled before the news hit about the Planned Parenthood videos, but it sure fits. I respect Juan Sanchez's willingness to tackle a very difficult topic—sacrificing children to Molech. If you're thinking, Well, that's not the way I'd cover that topic, then let me ask: Are you addressing the tough issues of our culture and of Scripture? Is Molech worship alive and well in our culture? If so, what are we doing about it? These are tough questions, my fellow preachers, but we cannot avoid them. Let's spur each other on to courageous, faithful preaching.
And in this week's preaching skills article, scholar and preacher Matthew Schlimm looks at "Preaching Disturbing Stories." Schlimm asks, "What do we make of these disturbing stories? Why are they part of the Holy Bible—when they seem so unholy? What redemptive value do these sordid stories have? How could we ever preach them?" Check out the article for his answers to these questions.
