Preach the Most Relevant Book of the Bible
A preaching expert has weighed in on the "Bible's Most Relevant Preaching Book." What is his top choice? Ecclesiastes. I have to be honest, that wouldn't have been my top choice. But in this week's in-depth and practical preaching skills article, Dr. Scott Wenig from Denver Seminary argues, "The context of Ecclesiastes feels eerily similar to our own context in 21st century America." Surprisingly, although this book has a bad rap for its dark pessimism, Wenig contends that it is also "laden with manifestations of God's grace."
And Wenig has provided an excellent model of how to preach an expository series based on Ecclesiastes. This week we feature the first three in Wenig's series. Here's his big idea from the Ecclesiastes 1-2: "Unless Jesus is at the center of your life, more money, more education, and more sex are never going to satisfy you."
